Compare exact models, not just brand names
LONGi, Jinko, JA Solar, and other manufacturers sell different module families. Ask the supplier to put the full model code on the quotation. A description such as premium panel leaves too much room for substitution.
Place the proposed datasheets side by side. Compare rated power, dimensions, weight, efficiency, temperature coefficients, and electrical characteristics. Manufacturer comparison tools show why modules with similar headline wattage can have different specifications.
A higher wattage panel may also be larger
A larger module can produce more rated power while also occupying more roof space. Ask for the actual layout and total installed capacity rather than choosing the largest number on the label. Access paths, shading, and the mounting arrangement can affect how many panels fit.
If a proposal includes bifacial modules, ask what rear-side contribution the designer assumes and why the mounting arrangement supports it. Do not add an advertised maximum rear-side gain to your savings calculation without a site-specific basis.
Read the warranty documents
Ask for the product warranty and the performance warranty for the exact module and market. Find out who receives a claim, which evidence is required, and whether labour or transport is covered. A performance warranty and a promise of zero electricity bills are entirely different things.
Check the seller’s invoice, serial-number records, and the route for verifying the equipment with the manufacturer or supplier. If an alternative model is offered before installation, ask for the revised specification and approve the change in writing.
Choose the complete system
A panel choice has to work with the inverter and the rest of the electrical design. The manufacturer’s installation instructions contain model-specific requirements; your installer should use the documents for the equipment being supplied.
At RENS, the equipment list forms part of the proposal. We can discuss panel options against your available space, budget, and service expectations. Ask us to explain the reason for the selected model and any alternatives worth considering for your property.
About this guide
RENS guides explain solar planning and the questions to ask before installation. General guidance and illustrative examples do not replace equipment instructions, current local rules or a site-specific design.
